In professional environments, DEIB challenges can manifest in many ways. Luckily, recognizing these manifestations and why they occur enables us to address them.
Some are easy to spot. They show up in numbers, such as pay inequity or hiring inequity. And some are a little harder to diagnose or are frequently misdiagnosed because the numbers only show part of the story. Three common examples are PREFERENTIAL TREATMENT, OPPORTUNITY INEQUITY, and MICROAGGRESSIONS.
In this session, we will explore preferential treatment, opportunity inequity, and microaggressions. What they are, where they come from, how to spot them, and techniques that we can all use, as leaders, managers, influencers, and colleagues, to address them.
Introduce the concepts of preferential treatment, opportunity inequity, and microaggressions – what they are and where they come from.
Identify the impact of these common challenges on our professional environments, and how we can spot them when they occur.
Explore a variety of techniques and tips to address each of these issues and how we, as citizens of our professional organizations, can all be part of the solution.
