Tip of the week: Don't assume job hopping means an unstable/unreliable candidate

Reason: There are many things that can lead to a paper trail of ‘job hopping’ (moving organizations at least once every couple of years). It could be that the individual is just not very good at their job or has little loyalty and is therefore easily drawn away. It could also be that the person is so good at their job, they help companies reach exit and get acquired (which also shows up as a new organization). It could be that they are a military spouse and must relocate on a military deployment schedule. It could be that they relocated for personal reasons, or had a series of fantastic opportunities, or required a change in organization to realize their potential. It could be a lot of different things. There is a very simple way of finding out – rather than dismiss the candidate because of ‘job hopping’, ask them about it.

Missed a tip? They can all be found here.
